‘Bachelor’ Alum Joey Graziadei Explains How ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Transformed His Body

Joey Graziadei is getting candid about the profound weight loss he experienced while competing on Dancing with the Stars.

The 29-year-old Bachelor alum revealed on the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis that his weight loss was actually so drastic, his fiancée, Kelsey, expressed concern. “I definitely got a little too thin quickly,” Graziadei said.

But with the show’s rigorous training and production schedule, how could Graziadei not shed the pounds? “Initially you’re doing steps like the jive. We lost so much weight during that week because we were just kicking and flicking and doing so much,” he explained. “Same thing in the samba. You have to move so much in those dances that—Kelsey’s the one that tells you… ‘You’re looking pretty thin.’”

While admitting he was “definitely getting cut,” Graziadei eventually became so thin that his wardrobe no longer fit him. “I’m losing a lot of weight and my size 32 pants, I need a 30 all of a sudden it feels like, ‘cause I’m having to buckle it up so tight,” he said.

The “last few weeks” of Dancing with the Stars, during which Graziadei had to try out the Argentine Tango and a few modern dances, further “transformed” his physique “even more” because he was doing “a lot more lifts,” which built muscle.

“The only thing I can compare it to is like I just worked out, like an upper body workout,” he explained. “Every single time we do those lifts…there’s a lot of legs and upper body you have to do to kind of be strong during that.” Graziadei found the “overall transformation of [his] body” to be “wild, and he’d jump at the opportunity to do it again. “If I could do this every day, I would because I would never be out of shape, and it’s amazing,” he said.
